SSL/TLS

SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer.

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser.

This ensures that all data passed between the server and browser remains private. SSL is used by millions of websites to protect online transactions with their customers.

TLS stands for Transport Layer Security.

TLS is a successor to SSL, and is now being recommended for use instead of it's predecessor.  However, you can still use SSL if you wish.
